Optimod-HF 9200

Notes

New 9200 presets give you the power to stand out in HF.

If you're like most HF broadcasters, you're facing technical challenges. Extremely low signal-to-noise ratios, fading, interference from co-channel and adjacent-channel stations, and, in some geographic regions, jamming are making it difficult for your listeners to receive your programming. In addition, most portable HF receivers have a very narrow 2kHz audio bandwidth, which severely compromises speech intelligibility.

How do you overcome reception problems?

Your average modulation power must be as high as possible to make your HF programming stand out. You can achieve that optimum level by increasing transmitter power output-an expensive solution in terms of capital costs and power consumption. Or you can choose the market's more effective, affordable solution: OPTIMOD-AM 9200 processor with its new HF presets.

Building on the standard.

Orban's analog OPTIMOD-HF 9105 has achieved widespread acceptance from the world's most prestigious national HF broadcasting organizations. With the introduction of Version 2 software, the OPTIMOD-AM 9200 offers three innovative presets, tuned to match the exceptional sound of the 9105, and all the benefits of a digital system.

A solution for all types of programming and conditions.

The 9200's HF presets have been designed to meet your exact needs: one preset for general programming (voice and music), one for voice programming and the third for voice programming in the presence of extremely poor propagation conditions, including jamming.

The presets share the 9200's unique receiver equalizer, which compensates for receiver high-frequency rolloff and dramatically increases speech intelligibility, and they go a step further. Your sound will benefit from a dynamic presence lift and considerably less bass than what's offered with the 9200 presets for mediumwave transmission, maximizing intelligibility on narrowband radios. What's more, the presets' well-controlled bass can help reduce your transmitter's power consumption and increase the life of expensive power tubes.

An easy-to-use solution.

There are two basic presets: HF GENERAL and HF VOICE. Each has full LESS-MORE control. The third preset for voice programming in presence of jamming or severe interference- the "flame-thrower"- is identical to HF VOICE except that it has a much higher LESS-MORE setting.

All of the presets have been initially set for 4.5kHz lowpass filtering, 50Hz highpass filtering, and a gentle bass rolloff. However, as with any 9200 factory preset, the parameters can be adjusted and then saved as a user preset for maximum convenience.

Protecting your transmitter.

Have a high-power system? If so, consider the advantages of the 9200's 30dB/octave highpass filter. You can adjust the filter from 50 to 100Hz in 10Hz steps. Regardless of cutoff frequency, it will always include deep notches at 25 and 35Hz to protect the power supplies of many transmitters. If you broadcast primarily speech programming, turn up the filter setting to extend tube life and save on power bills.

The 9200 has a bypass facility that includes the lowpass filter, highpass filter and a safety clipper (with user-settable threshold). As a result, you can make transmission system measurements through the processor while protecting your high-power transmitter from accidental damage caused by inappropriate levels or frequencies.

Protecting your unique sound.

How many times have you had to reset your station parameters to correct unauthorized adjustments by on-air staff? The 9200 offers a front-panel lockout security code, saving you time and frustration.

Perfect for day or night.

Another 9200 advantage is separate Day and Night Positive Peak settings. The two settings are well-suited for stations that have different day and night modes of operation and want the highest fidelity during daytime broadcasts and the highest signal coverage when transmitter power is reduced during nighttime broadcasts.

Everything you need to stand out.

The 9200 is the ideal processing tool, with an extensive feature set including its new presets, versatile equalizers and programming capability, to ensure your HF broadcasts come through loud and clear all the time.
