TVS-3001

TVS 3001 Stereo Controller

The TVS-3001 is a state-of-the-art MTS stereo television processing system that offers maximum control of the audio program material. Many exclusive features not found on other MTS processing systems make the TVS-3001 your most valuable processing tool. When combined with the TVS-3003 MTS Generator/Audio Limiter, the ultimate stereo audio processing and BTSC generation system is formed.

The TVS-3001 has over 30dB of linearized AGC range to handle the diverse programming and feed sources used today. Several key features make the TVS-3001 excel in its audio control function.

Stereo Input Phase Reversal Correction

Program feeds coming from many different sources make it possible for out-of-phase material to be encountered from time to time, causing the loss of audio (L+R) to monophonic viewers. The TVS-3001 features the only intelligent input phase reversal correction system that detects the out-of-phase condition and corrects it with little or no viewer perception. When this condition is corrected, a front panel LED indicator lights and a remote control signal is generated.

Input Sync Suppression

There are many ways for the horizontal sync signal to find its way into the audio path. When stray sync joins with the audio signal, high quality AGC and limiting devices can react to the stray sync and erroneously control the overall audio level. This may lead to lower than desired program levels. The switchable filter in the TVS-3001 places a high-Q notch at Fh and at 2Fh to remove stray horizontal sync energy before reaching any AGC circuits.

Audio Asymmetry Removal

The TTVS-3001 utilizes precision matched all-pass filters to shift harmonic phase relationships in highly asymmetrical program material commonly associated with voices, providing more consistent waveforms to the gain control stages that follow. The result and overall effect of this system is better peak control of different vocal and microphone characteristics.

Modified CBS Loudness Controller

Extensive evaluation of the loudness controllers manufactured under license from CBS has shown that their initial design worked quite well on voice-only material but was not specifically suited for the high quality musical content in today's programming. As shown in the CBS patenet, perceived loudness is based on both the relative amplitude and frequency content of audio signals. CRL has therefore redesigned the circuits controlling both of these parameters to obtain excellent control of voice and music programs indiscriminatly. At last there is a loudness controller that works. The loudness control function may be remotely controlled if desired.

Linearized AGC

To ensure consistent output levels while maintaining the dynamic integrity of various program sources, time-proven and patented VCR (Voltage Controlled Resistor) technology has been implemented to provide a unique 30 dB+ gain riding tri-band AGC. This system uses a slow acting wideband platform AGC as the reference gain for three independent bands of AGC control, resulting in a smooth and virtually flawless sound control action over a wide range of level inputs. A gating circuit freezes AGC action 20dB below threshold and will "gain lock" during quiet passages to prevent noise floor amplification.

User Friendly Controls and Features

The TVS-3001 was designed to be easy to set up and operate. All normally used controls are located behind the front access panel. To facilitate quick accrate setup, the unit incorporates a complete peak reading LED bar graph display, including a built in pink noise generator. The LED display allows the user to select indications of L/R input or output level, L+R/L−R output or L/R gain reduction. The input and ouotput meter ranges are separately programmable from -10dBm to +20dBm. Additional LED status indicators include gain lock (gating) action, polarity inversion, CRL/CBS loudness controller and input Fh filter. Independent 20 turn input and output level controls allow precise adjustment. The input polarity correction circuits and CRL/CBS loudness control functions may be remotely controlled if desired. The audio outputs of the unit may be jumper selectable for either L/R or L+R/L−R outputs.
